Virtually Immune to Chloride Ion Stress Corrosion Cracking
Inconel 625 is an austenitic nickel-base super-alloy with excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance. The solid solution strengthening of columbium and molybdenum in the nickel-chromium matrix gives this alloy excellent strength and toughness. Alloy 625 is non-magnetic and can be used for parts that require both oxidation and corrosion resistance up to 2000° F. Inconel 625 has a wide array of applications but preforms well in marine environments, hot sections of jet engines and corrosive, high temperature chemical processing atmospheres.
The strength of 625 comes from a stiffening effect of the niobium and molybdenum on its nickel-chromium matrix, thus PH treatments aren’t required. The combination of these elements form a superior resistance to a variety of corrosive environments of a rather unusual severity in addition to high temperature effects like oxidation and carburization.
Inconel 625 is an appropriate selection for sea water applications, it’s also good for mooring cables and propeller blades, motors, utility boats, undersea communication cables, springs, seals and other types of marine applications.
