Hastelloy X is one of the most widely used nickel-based alloys. This is due to its high resistance to oxidation and high temperature strength. Hastelloy X is also known as Alloy “X”. This alloy is commonly used in gas turbine engine components, furnace applications. In addition, this alloy is good for any type of combustion zone sections such as tailpipes, cabin heaters and heat-treating equipment. Is Hastelloy X and Alloy X the same? Yes, alloy X and Hastelloy X are the same thing, Hastelloy is a tradename and only Haynes International can produce it using that name. Its good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and carburization make it suitable for petrochemical processing equipment and all types of forming and welding.

This alloy is machinable in the rolled and cast form at low cutting speeds and coolant is required. All rolled forms are provided in the solution heat-treated condition. Standard practice heat-treatment is 2150°F followed by rapid cooling.

Alloy X is strong and resistant to oxidation. It is also extremely resistant to stress and corrosion cracking in petro chemical applications. Hastelloy X is easily fabricated and has great forming and welding characteristics. This alloy can also be forged and due to its great ductility Hastelloy X can be cold worked.

This material is available in pipe, plate, sheet, tubing, and round bar. Michlin has made a new YouTube on the Hastelloy Alloys, check it out here! For an even more specifics check out our video below or read transcript here.
