What’s up guys? This is Michael with Michael Talks Metal back for more metal musings. Today we’re talkin about Maraging 300 but before we do, if you can help out the channel and subscribe, we’d be grateful for the support, or worst case, if you like the video, make sure to SMASH that like button! (please) 🙂 So let’s jump in.
Today our Video topic is Maraging 300; a high strength Iron base alloy of Nickel, Cobalt, and Molybdenum. Additions of Titanium and Aluminum provide the ability to age harden with a simple low temperature heat treatment. UNS designation is K93120.
A stable low carbon martensitic structure provides good fabricability in the solution treated or annealed condition and can be readily welded.
In aerospace applications it is used for parts requiring high strength with toughness in the final heat treated condition and is Consumable Electrode Melted for cleanliness to AMS 2300 quality requirements
Both the annealed and solution treated conditions create a stable martensitic structure and would normally be performed by the producing mill.
Typical age hardening of fabricated parts is performed at 900 deg F for 4 to 6 hours at temperature to develop the high strength final condition.
